Information about virus AH1N1

Dear Indonesian Citizens,

The Indonesian Embassy would like to give you some up to date information in reference to the news that is lately circulating about the Swine Flu's outbreak that affects humans. At this time, the main cases have only been confirmed in Mexico, United States, Canada and Spain. However, the situation is changing on a daily basis and it is important for us all to keep ourselves informed.

As we all know, this flu is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease that is transmitted human–to–human, through the droplets of saliva that travel within the air when a person coughs, sneezes or spits. It is not transmitted through the consumption of pork or its derivatives. For this reason, we would like to give you some recommendations to take into consideration:

    • Avoid close contact with people who have a respiratory illness.
    • Avoid greeting people with kisses or shaking hands.
    • Do not share food, cups or cutlery.
    • Wash your hand with soap and water frequently and thoroughly.
    • Use disposable tissues when sneezing or coughing, and wash your hands immediately afterwards.
    • In the case that you have a high fever, cough, sore throat, headache, pain in your muscles and joints,
you should contact your doctor immediately. You should not self–medicate.
    • In the case of traveling abroad, when returning, stay at home for 5 days before continuing with your
      daily activities.

We also remind you that

• A person who are ill should remain at home until fully recovered, and have presented a medical
      certificate.
   • The obligation of a person to report promptly to the health clinics in the event of an infectious or
contagious disease. A person in this condition will be allowed to attend work only with a doctor's
      certificate certifying his/her fitness.”

We would appreciate it if you could keep yourself informed of the news related to this topic. In the following links you will find further information:
